Emergency Lighting Luminaires

Emergency lighting luminaires activate when the mains supply fails, illuminating escape routes, stairways and high-risk task areas. TS EN 1838 requires a minimum of 1 lux along the centre line of the escape route, sustained for at least 60 minutes.

The ZBS emergency lighting family comprises the metal-enclosure SAFELIGHT and SAFELIGHT ECO series, the ABS-bodied TWINLIGHT and TWINLIGHT MIDI models, the slim Z-LITE, the decorative AUCTROLUX and the recessed DEEP LIGHTING luminaire. Light output ranges from 2x200 lm to 2x1000 lm.

All models feature an LED 6500K light source, a manual test button, a charge indicator LED and a 24-hour charging time. VRLA and LiFePO4 battery options with 60/120/180 minute autonomy can be configured to suit the project.

How many lux must an emergency lighting luminaire provide?
Under TS EN 1838 a minimum of 1 lux is required along the centre line of the escape route, at least 0.5 lux for open (anti-panic) area lighting, and 10% of the normal illuminance in high-risk task areas.
How are emergency lighting luminaires maintained?
A short functional test should be carried out monthly using the manual test button, and a full-duration discharge test (60 or 180 minutes) once a year. Test results should be kept in the building maintenance records.
What is the difference between LiFePO4 and Ni-Cd / VRLA batteries?
LiFePO4 batteries offer a longer cycle life, a wider operating temperature range and lower weight. Compared with Ni-Cd and VRLA batteries they require less maintenance and lose capacity more slowly over time.
